The museum in Elbasan is found right in the centre of the city, not far from the Kalaja, the remains of the old castle. The house in which the museum was established is a two story house, contrary to the three story house of Berat. It has two larger Oda’s or guestrooms on the upper floor, one for the men, one for the women and both are furnished in the traditional way. The hall in the centre of the floor is open on the front side of the house. On the lower floor is a display of the different villages within the Elbasan district, presenting the different dresses. One room has some costumes on display and a fair amount of textiles, showing the different patterns and materials used. Another room shows tools to work on wood and iron. From the outside the museum may look closed as the shutters of the windows are closed . This however is to protect the inside of the rooms from direct sunlight.
